I have always been interested in music and art. I played in the school band, which evolved to singing and then playing acoustic and electric guitar. I then began to explore oil and acrylic painting, which I still enjoy creating paintings.
My passion for jewelry began when the great oil painting artist Kimberly Langevin told me about polymer clay and how it could be sculpted and transformed into different works of art, including jewelry.
It wasn't long after I found myself dabbling in polymer clay and then soon began buying materials to make jewelry. I began learning about precious gemstones, how they are graded, what made each unique.
I found making jewelry had become a passion, something I truly loved to do that was a way to express my creative self and share with others who appreciate jewelry and art. I began studying and reading every book I could buy, every tutorial I could watch and asking all the questions I could. Friends and family would ask "what have you come up with today?" I was eager to share with them to get feedback on what I had created.
I began purchasing rubies, garnets, pearls of different shapes and colors, jasper and agate, opal and onyx, my color and material palette became never-ending. A new world opened. The more I learned, the better quality I insisted on. I began learning about the art of precious metal clay and am now adding this art to my collection as well. (Look for pure silver designs coming soon.) In addition to the finer quality items, I do offer a less expensive collection as well. I want everyone to enjoy the beauty and power of jewelry.
Soon after my discovery of my new passion, my husband (whom is also the son of Kimberly Langevin) and I decided to relocate to the water's edge of the great Cape Fear River.
There is something about being so close to the water and the wonderful historic downtown Wilmington, NC that gave me greater inspiration to explore and dive deeper into the art of jewelry. I found myself creating every night, after returning home from my day job, making jewelry and works of art.
Giving pieces of jewelry as gifts to friends and family, and selling to those who insisted they pay, the next step was inevitable, to begin offering my jewelry beyond the immediate family and friends. And thus, Cape Fear Styles was founded. Offering my collection online allows me to share with others this passion and to be able to continue to create.
I also offer custom jewelry. Contact me if you wish to create a specific piece not featured on my site. I will also alter sizes and lengths of jewelry on my site if requested.
I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as I do making them. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome. I want to thank you in advance for choosing me as your jewelry artist and for choosing Cape Fear Styles.
